Matt Stine - Head Varsity Coach
Matt Stine “Lager” begins his 34th year of coaching baseball and his second year as Head Baseball Coach at Yorba Linda High School. The other 32 years he coached at El Dorado High School, Anaheim High School, Fullerton College and Chapman University, where his responsibilities varied from coaching the hitters, outfielders and infielders, as well as, Associate Head Coach. He was an assistant coach with the 1999 CIF Championship team at EDHS, and when asked to be the interim Head Coach in 2001, that team led him to a CIF Championship. Coach Stine is the Department Chair for Special Education at YLHS and has been teaching for 15 years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Movement and Exercise Science from Chapman University and has a Masters of Science degree in Education from California State University at Fullerton. He resides in Placentia with his wife of 17 years; Gina, his daughter, Kyncee, 12 and son, Rawleigh (R.J.), 8.
Colin Domene - Varsity Coach (Infielders, Hitters)
Coach Domene has coached baseball at the high school level for the past ten years. His most recent experience was at the Varsity level for Esperanza High School, where he handled infielders and pitch calling. Coach Domene played at Esperanza where he lettered for two years. He played and coached for West Virginia Tech, where he helped lead them to their school record in wins. Coach Domene teaches Language Arts and Reading at YLHS, and also is the Head Freshmen Football Coach. He currently lives in Yorba Linda with his wife Carrie.
Mark Chavez - Varsity Coach (Pitchers, Catchers)
Mark Chavez has 9 years of coaching experience including 4 years at Fullerton College, 2 years at Cypress College, and 2 years at El Dorado High School and has worked primarily with pitchers and catchers at all three. Coach Chavez’ most recent playing experience was with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and before that he played for L.A. Harbor College and also Cal State Fullerton where he helped the team win the National Championship in 1996. Coach Chavez currently holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice and has been a special education teacher for 11 years. He lives in Placentia with Melissa, his wife of 8 years, and their two children, Ryan (7 yrs) and Renay (3 yrs.).
John Baughman - Varsity Coach (Outfielders, Hitters)
Coach Baughman is entering his 12th year teaching in the PYLUSD and his 11th year coaching high school baseball. At Yorba Linda High School, Coach Baughman is the Physical department chair/ Health teacher and offensive coordinator for the Freshmen football team. He recieved his BS in Kinesiology and MS, both from CSUF. Coach Baughman's coaching resume includes 2 years lower level baseball/ football @ Bolsa Grande HS, 2 years lower level baseball/ varsity football @ El Dorado HS, 3 years Head Varsity Baseball coach @ Los Amigos HS, and 3 Years Varsity asst. Baseball Coach (pitching/ Inf.) @ Fairmont Prep Academy. He currently lives in Yorba Linda with his wife of 13 years (Jessica) and his 3 children (Nathan 5, Payton 5, And Jordan 3).
Larry Tipton - Head JV Coach
Growing up in Southern California, Larry Tipton began his love of baseball at an early age. Developing his switch-hitting skills at the age of seven, he excelled at each level of play throughout high school, college and beyond. Though a nimble shortstop and adept first baseman, he was well-rounded at all positions. However, the mound and batters box competed for his number one position as both hitting and pitching became the most valuable areas of his expertise. His years of experience and comprehensive knowledge of the game, enable Coach Tipton to understand and instruct the finer points of baseball while maintaining emphasis on fundementals. He works with various ages and skill levels such as 12U, Connie Mack, High School and adult baseball. Coach Tipton brings conference championship experience with him to the Mustangs and believes "baseball should always be fun".
Coach Tipton is a graduate of California State University at Fullerton earning his Teaching Credential and Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. He owns a manufacturing company and is USN Veteran. Coach Tipton resides with his wife in Yorba Linda.
Bill Hutchinson - JV Coach
Coach Hutchinson is in his first year coaching Mustang Baseball. His playing experience was primarily recreational, although he is an ardent fan and a true student of the game. He has coached baseball for 10 years at various levels, bringing leadership skills and a strong mentoring attitude to the field and to the student athletes. He graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a BA in Sociology and continued his education in graduate school at St. Mary’s College of California earning a Master of Arts in Leadership. Coach Hutchinson lives in Placentia with his wife Sharon.
Carlos Vega - Head Freshman Coach
Carlos Vega enters his third year of coaching at the high school level. He previously was the Head J.V. baseball coach at his alma mater, Katella High School. Coach Vega then went on to play at Fullerton Junior College. His team voted him Most Valuable Player after leading the team in home runs and runs batted in. He currently holds the 5th best hitting streak in Fullerton College history at 19 games. After his sophomore season he was a 1st team South Coast Conference selection and invited to play in its All-Star game at Anaheim Stadium. Carlos went on to play at Fresno State University. His 1983 and 1984 teams won back to back NCBA conference championships and advanced to the NCAA regionals. The 1984 team was recently inducted into the Fresno State Hall of Fame and still ranks as the team with the second most victories in school history.
Coach Vega and his wife Maite have been married for 16 years and have two boys (Nick) and (Alex)
Billy Hutchinson - Freshman Coach
Billy Hutchinson is in his second year of coaching after graduating from El Dorado High School in 2009 where he played baseball all four years. In 2009, Coach Hutchinson helped his team reach the CIF playoffs by hitting .345 for the season along with a fielding percentage of .980. He was named to the All-Tournament Team for his 7-for-14 performance during the 2009 National Classic Tournament. Coach Hutchinson was also recognized as a positive influence in the clubhouse as the recipient of the 2009 Coach’s Award. Coach Hutchinson was also named to the North-South Orange County All-Star Team in 2009. He was recognized for his diligence, humility, hard work and inspiration on and off the field as the recipient of the Michael O’Higgins Scholarship Award. Coach Hutchinson lives in Placentia and attends Fullerton College.
